Saint Anne’s Hospital is named to Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s annual Hospital Honor Roll

Saint Anne’s is a top performer against national benchmarks

Harvard Pilgrim Health Care has announced that Saint Anne’s Hospital, in Fall River, is one of 55 hospitals in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, and Connecticut to be named to its annual Hospital Honor Roll.

One of 21 Massachusetts hospitals in making the honor roll, Saint Anne’s is the only hospital in the Greater Fall River-Greater New Bedford area to receive the honor.

“It is gratifying for our physicians, nurses and all clinical team members who work so diligently on behalf of our patients to receive this recognition,” said Craig Jesiolowski, Saint Anne’s Hospital president.  “Time and again, we are finding that our focus on providing high-level community care, by a team that also prides itself on a tradition of care, compassion, and hope, is being recognized in very meaningful ways.”

Harvard Pilgrim’s Hospital Honor Roll recognizes adult, acute care hospitals whose performance was among the top 25 percent of those measured nationally on a set of composite quality and patient experience measures, as reported by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on Hospital Compare (www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov) and Leapfrog patient safety measures (www.leapfroggroup.org).

The Hospital Honor Roll complements Harvard Pilgrim’s annual Honor Roll for Physician Groups. Among this year’s honorees is the Fall River chapter of the Steward Health Care Network, which includes more than 400 primary care and specialty providers in the Greater Fall River-New Bedford area.

Hospitals were evaluated by Harvard Pilgrim on processes of care in four categories: cardiac; pneumonia; surgery – preventing infections; and surgery – preventing complications.  The results of patient surveys measuring patient hospital experiences were included.  CMS patient safety measures included results hospitals achieved in healthcare associated infections, hospital acquired conditions, and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) patient safety composite scores.

The Harvard Pilgrim Hospital Roll is the latest in a recent series of honors received by Saint Anne’s Hospital in recognition of its quality, safety and service to patients and families.  The hospital’s recent awards include:

  • A five-star rating by Healthgrades for treatment of patients with heart attack, heart failure and respiratory failure
  • Gold Seal of Approval® certification by The Joint Commission for knee and hip replacement program
  • Designation by Blue Cross Blue Shield as a Blue Distinction Center+ for Knee and Hip Replacement®
  • “Straight A’s” Hospital Safety ScoreSM by The Leapfrog Group.
  • Accreditation with commendation by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons

Honor Roll hospitals are noted in Harvard Pilgrim’s printed and online provider directories, as well as on the organization’s website and its “Now iKnow” cost and quality transparency tool, enabling consumers to select hospitals based on quality and safety performance. Hospitals were evaluated on processes of care in four categories: cardiac; pneumonia; surgery – preventing infections; and surgery – preventing complications. The results of patient surveys measuring patient hospital experiences were also considered. Lastly, Harvard Pilgrim factored in CMS patient safety measures such as health care associated infections, and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) patient safety composite scores.
