All 10 acute care hospital campuses in the Steward Health Care System were awarded an “A” grade in the Fall 2014 update to the Hospital Safety Score, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. The Hospital Safety Score is compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is administered by The Leapfrog Group, an independent industry watchdog.

    St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center earned multiple “top-in-nation”, including several 5-star rankings in cardiac care from Healthgrades, the leading online resource that helps consumers search, compare and connect with physicians and hospitals. In addition, St. Elizabeth’s earned the Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award™ 2014.

    Steward Health Care System LLC (Steward), the largest private provider of inpatient behavioral health services, has added 70 new behavioral health beds to the system in 2014. This includes 15 geriatric psychiatry beds at Carney Hospital in Dorchester and another 15 geriatric psychiatry beds at New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton coming online in December.

    Carney Hospital today announced it has been recognized as a 2013 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® (Top Performer) by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States. Carney Hospital was recognized as part of The Joint Commission’s 2014 annual report “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety,” for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for Heart Failure, Pneumonia and Surgical Care.
