Fall River, MA – Adult patients requiring therapy for conditions resulting from illness or injury can now enjoy physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language rehabilitation in Fall River at Saint Anne’s Hospital’s newly enlarged Rehabilitation Services Center conveniently located at 222 Milliken Boulevard, Fall River.
Since 2002, Saint Anne’s Hospital’s adult Rehabilitation Services has provided individualized treatment services at the Milliken Boulevard location. During that time, the program has grown annually by about ten percent.
Some of the most common reasons for rehabilitation services include stroke; orthopedic rehabilitation; certified hand therapy; lower back and neck pain; joint rehabilitation; rheumatoid arthritis; swallowing and feeding; and communication disorders. The program also offers specialized therapies such as certified lymphedema therapy; certified hand therapy; craniosacral and myofascial therapy; pelvic floor rehabilitation for decreasing symptoms of urinary incontinence; and VitalStim® swallowing therapy.
Located on the fourth floor of the Hub International Building, Rehab Services’ original 2,400-square foot area now measures more than 3,500 square feet. The expansion into former adjoining medical-office space allows for additional private examination rooms, relocation of occupational therapy and speech-language therapy to dedicated areas, an enlarged physical therapy treatment area, more spacious waiting areas, and greater patient privacy.
Coordinated services are provided by a team of physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, occupational therapists, certified occupational therapy assistants, and speech and language pathologists. The team also works in conjunction with other hospital services, including the Center for Pain Management, geriatric psychiatry, and physical medicine (physiatry).
“Our rehabilitation services are designed to help patients who have experienced trauma through surgery, accidents, or strokes, or have chronic conditions like arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome,” said Patricia McLaughlin, MS, CCC, the program’s director. “By tailoring a plan of care that offers fully coordinated services by professional therapists, we work to help each patient maximize their abilities and independence, achieve greater mobility, lessen pain and learn to manage their condition.”
Children’s rehabilitation services also are provided by specially trained pediatric therapists at 222 Milliken Boulevard in the Fernandes Center for Children & Families. The center offers children's physical, occupational, and speech-language therapy and recovery programs, custom-tailored to their needs in a friendly, child-sized environment.
