We provide surgical services at:
Saint Anne’s Hospital offers a range of general and specialty surgeries. Many surgeries use minimally invasive techniques, laser surgery, and endoscopic procedures. Also, Saint Anne’s specializes in pediatric surgery, using “right-sized,” child-sized equipment and offers the area’s only inpatient pediatric unit with a highly experienced nursing staff.
Some types of surgery performed at Saint Anne's Hospital include:
With advances in surgical care, many patients can have surgery and return home the same day to recover comfortably in familiar surroundings.
Our day surgery center has been designed to allow patients and caregivers to experience outpatient surgery at its finest. Patients and family members benefit from a private, comfortable space with a caring, specially trained staff.
The Center features several specially designed private pediatric rooms and a multiple-room endoscopy suite for procedures such as colonoscopy. Preoperative preparation and discharge care are provided in the center. Our location, adjacent to the hospital’s operating rooms and on the same floor as our inpatient surgical unit, allows for streamlined, coordinated surgical care.
Most patients have a pre-admission evaluation seven to 10 days before surgery. This helps to prepare the patient and family for surgery. Preparation includes interviews with a registered nurse and an anesthesiologist to evaluate the most appropriate type of anesthesia for each patient. Many patients will also have laboratory or other tests as ordered by their surgeons.
Introductory visits with rehabilitation therapists, a dietitian, and a case manager may be coordinated with the pre-admission visit to help prepare for post-surgical care and life needs.
Pre-Admission Testing offers convenient appointment hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and extended hours on Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Preparing for Surgery Patient Education Program: "PEP"
To help adult and pediatric patients and their families better understand and prepare for upcoming surgery, Saint Anne's Surgical Services offers the “Preparing for Surgery Patient Education Program,” also known as “PEP.”
PEP is taught weekly by experienced hospital surgical nursing staff (the “PEP Squad”). It consists of a free, one-hour class for patients and their family members to help them know what to expect before, during and after surgery, and how best to prepare for a safe and positive surgical experience. Classes are taught separately for children and adults and their families.
To learn more about PEP:
An anesthesiologist meets with each patient at the pre-admission visit. During this visit, the doctor explains types of anesthesia and determines the one that is best suited to the patient’s health, medical history and past surgical experiences. A separate brochure with detailed information on anesthesia is given to patients at their pre-admission visit.
Post-Anesthesia Care Unit
After surgery and other procedures, patients are cared for in the post-anesthesia care unit. This specialized recovery unit is staffed by experienced registered nurses and anesthesiologists who closely observe and monitor patients, and provide nursing care during recovery from anesthesia. Each patient is assigned a nurse who is trained in post-anesthesia care.
Post-Surgical Inpatient Care
Saint Anne’s surgical inpatient unit has been designed to meet the special needs of patients who are hospitalized after surgery.
Spacious private and semi-private rooms feature private bathrooms (including bath and shower) and windows that provide plenty of natural light, in an airy, relaxing environment. The unit’s circular design around a centrally located staff work area (including nurses’ station, nourishment center and staff work space) gives staff and patients and their family members mutually easy access. Families can also enjoy a special family lounge and close proximity to the hospital chapel.
After you go home
For patients with special post-surgical needs, we offer post-operative care services to promote maximum recovery. These include home care services, comprehensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation therapy for adults and children, multidisciplinary Center for Pain Management, and nutrition services.
For our patients and families
If you have questions
Our surgical services staff is here to help patients and their family and friends. We encourage our patients to ask questions before and after surgery to ensure their comfort and peace of mind.
